Faculty Research Katherine Howard, PhD, fifteen years experience conducting biomedical science research with an expertise in the area of lipid mediators of inflammation and the role of activated macrophages in periodontal disease and maintenance of oral health. Active and productive research lab with extensive research collaborations within the University community and supporting the research activities of undergraduates, predoctoral, postdoctoral, and Masters students. Congratulations to Dr. Katherine Howard! She was awarded $360,000 for the Regulation of Platelet-activating Factor Acetylhydrolase During Inflammation research project from the NIDCR. The goal of this research will be to investigate the dynamic interaction of inflammatory mediators and plasma platelet-activating factor acetylhydrolase expression and activity. Karl Kingsley, PhD, MPH, an Associate Professor in Biomedical Sciences at the UNLV School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Karl Kingsley is our new addition to the Office of Research. His research contribution to the UNLV School of Dental Medicine focuses on testing the hypothesis that high risk HPV infection can alter the phenotype of oral squamous cell carcinomas. His early work is among the first to demonstrate that oral cancers transfected with HPV18 or HPV16 demonstrate increased proliferation, as well as other phenotypic changes.
